Training sessions take place every Wednesday and Friday from June to early September, at l'Estaque, quai des pêcheurs. They start at around 5.30-6pm and finish at the jousters' convenience, usually around 9pm.
Provençal jousting is a popular event, with two jousters facing off, each on his own boat, one having to push the other into the water with his spear. These assaults are highly regulated.
Scoring is based on foot position, spear holding and striking technique. In Provençal jousting, the jouster's spear is shod and aimed at the opponent's plastron (or shield).
In each region, the name is different: although the technique is the same, we find La Languedocienne, La Vénitienne and so on.
