Our sustainable tourism action

The priority of the Marseille Tourist and Convention Bureau is to constantly improve the quality of the welcome given to tourists. At a time when residents and visitors alike are becoming increasingly aware of the importance of sustainable criteria in their choices, Marseille aims to become a leading destination for responsible tourism.

Our commitment

In a desire to be exemplary, the Marseille Convention and Visitors Bureau wanted to be certified by ISO 20121, which it obtained in October 2021. This will enable the Bureau’s internal operating methods to be aligned with its deep-seated convictions, with the aim of setting an example and limiting its carbon footprint.

Mobilisation of all tourism professionals

The Office is working to promote the development of sustainable tourism in the region, in particular by supporting professionals in extending their “eco-responsible” offer. Since 2020, Marseille’s accommodation providers have been supported in their efforts to obtain the Green Key label (the leading international label for sustainable accommodation providers), and this year it is the turn of restaurant owners to benefit from the Ecotable label programme. All tourism professionals are keen to offer visitors a “sustainable” alternative at every stage of their journey.

Showcasing our sustainable destination

Labels and certification

Supporting the city’s ambition to become a sustainable destination is at the heart of the Tourist and Convention Bureau’s desire to promote the city as a sustainable destination.

To this end, the Office has joined the GDS-Index in 2021 (the annual global reference index for responsible tourism) and obtained the Sustainable and Innovative Destination label (Label DID) in 2022 to show that Marseille is capable of welcoming tourists in good conditions while limiting the negative impacts linked to tourism activities.
