The Saint-Joseph neighbourhood in Marseille is situated in the city’s 14th arrondissement, close to the neighbourhoods of Aygalades, Sainte-Marthe, Delorme, Merlan and Arnavaux. A residential neighbourhood boasting leisure and community facilities, it also features lush green spaces that complement the urban landscape. With its residential buildings, schools, sports facilities, estates and country houses, the Saint-Joseph neighbourhood is a small town in its own right. Well-served by public transport and major roads, it enjoys a strategic location in the north of the city, close to the Étoile massif.

Local amenities

As a residential neighbourhood, Saint-Joseph has all the necessary amenities, such as nursery and primary schools, a boules court, a swimming pool, a stadiumand a sports hall, and is also home to the town hall for Marseille’s 13th and 14th arrondissements. The town hall is housed in a bastide, also known as the Château de Saint-Joseph, built by Louis Sauveur de Villeneuve, ambassador to Constantinople. It was acquired by the city of Marseille in the 1970s. It is situated in the heart of the Grand Séminaire park, which covers nearly 2 hectares. The estate also features a neighbourhood community centre and a nature centre comprising an educational garden, an orchard, a wooded area and several activity rooms. The Grand Séminaire Park is a truly special place where you can go for a stroll or stop for a picnic.

A green neighbourhood

In Saint-Joseph, nature plays an important role. Its geographical location makes it a neighbourhood that combines urban development with respect for nature. This part of Marseille’s 14th arrondissement is crossed by the Marseille Canal. Dating back to the 19th century, it is the city’s main source of drinking water and supplies all neighbourhoods over a distance of more than 160 kilometres.

Characterised by its abundant natural surroundings, the Saint-Joseph neighbourhood is home to part of the Plateau de la Mûre, a foothill of the Étoile mountain range. This area of scrubland and pine forests offers breathtaking views over the south and north of the city. You can also explore the Giraudy estate and the bastide, which has retained its 18th-century charm and is also known as Château Foucou.

From Marseille city centre, take the A7 motorway and take Exit 34 “La Rose/Ste Marthe/Les Arnavaux”
From the A7 or A51 when approaching Marseille, take Exit 33 towards Les Aygalades.
