Around 1740, the Marquis de Villeneuve had the Château de Saint-Joseph built, which was later to house the Major Seminary. In 1976, the City of Marseille bought the bastide with the dual objective of contributing to the preservation of its historical heritage and providing the population of the area with quality public facilities. Around this magnificent 18th century building, which houses the city hall of the 13th and 14th arrondissements, are: a nature relay, a neighborhood activity center and a public park. The two-hectare park, which extends below the bastide, is embellished with lawns lined with planted paths in the form of a mall. They allow for the enhancement of its remarkable architecture and simultaneously offer the inhabitants of the village nucleus of Saint-Joseph and the neighboring housing complexes, areas for development and rest.
