Guided tours

Throughout the summer, the Tourist Office offers tours and activities specially designed for families. Children can explore the Cité Radieuse on a fun-filled trail, solve a gripping mystery about the Sun King, or set off on an adventure on a treasure hunt in the heart of Parc Borély. An original way to discover Marseille whilst having fun and sharing wonderful moments with the family.

Invader was here

Take your children on a hunt… for Space Invaders! These famous colourful mosaics are hidden away in many neighbourhoods across Marseille. You may well have spotted some without even realising it. In the summer of 2020, the street artist Invader scattered his works across every corner of Marseille. Today, there are nearly 97 mosaics to unearth, some of which are particularly well hidden. It’s up to you to find them!

Set sail

With the sun shining and a lovely spring’s day, let’s set sail and discover the Count of Monte Cristo on the island of Château d’If! Notre-Dame de la Garde – an absolute must-see!

If there’s one place you simply must visit in Marseille, it’s undoubtedly our famous ‘Bonne-Mère’, Notre-Dame de la Garde, which overlooks the city from its hilltop. There are several ways to get there: on foot (allow about 20 minutes from the Vieux-Port), by bike or by bus (line 60). If you’re travelling with your family, the most convenient option is the little tourist train, which departs from the Vieux-Port and takes you straight to the basilica.

If hiking doesn’t appeal to you , or if your children are still too young to explore the hills, you can opt for a boat trip to discover the Calanques – weather permitting, of course. There are several options available: excursions with regular operators or private charters, short or more comprehensive tours… It’s up to you to choose the option that best suits your preferences!

Activities in the city’s museums

To spark the curiosity of the youngest visitors, many of Marseille’s museums are offering tours, workshops and activities throughout the school holidays. Life-size games at the Natural History Museum, creative workshops at the Préau des Accoules, art activities at the Marseille History Museum, guided tours and workshops at the Cantini Museum, activities centred on the collections at Château Borély, and themed courses at Château de la Buzine…not to mention theMucem, which also offers creative workshops and fun-filled tours.
Prehistory enthusiasts, meanwhile, can enjoy a unique immersive experience at the Cosquer Cave. A varied programme to delight all ages and interests!

Marseille soap is known all over the world. But do you really know how it’s made? During the holidays, Marseille’s soap factories offer free tours – but be warned, you’ll need to book in advance! You can find these tours at the Savonnerie du Midior the Savonnerie du Fer à Cheval.  Alternatively, if you’d like , you can also visit the Soap Museum in the Vieux-Port.

The Museum of Illusions

Open for a few months now, theMuseum of Illusionsis mind-blowing! Across nearly 700 m², have fun with the whole family as you experience bewildering and astonishing optical illusions – your senses and your perception of reality will be completely turned on their head! An incredible experience to enjoy as a family.

To let off some steam, head for the bowl at Escale Borély, the playground at Friche Belle de Mai or the skatepark at the Palais de la Glisse: skateboarding, rollerblading, BMX… your kids will love it! And for the little Tarzan adventurers, why not try a spot of accrobranche… and accompany them on their exploits? Winter’s behind us… so what? You can still enjoy a winter sport, can’t you? Head to the Palais omnisports Marseille Grand-Est for a skating rink worthy of the Olympic Games! You can even watch a match by the Marseille Spartiates, the local ice hockey team. Also at the Palais omnisport, you can take advantage of a 3500 m2 sliding area, where rollerblades, BMX and skateboarding are the order of the day.

For the little ones, Royal Kid and Magic City are great places to let off steam – and what’s more, they’re usually air-conditioned! Children can let off steam on giant play structures to their heart’s content. Urban Jump and KIP are multi-activity indoor centres aimed more at teenagers, where they can try indoor go-karting, laser tag, bowling or giant trampolines.
