Water, a resource to be saved and preserved

Despite abundant water resources in the south, due to the remarkable diversity of aquatic environments, the water situation in our region is fragile and calls for constant efforts to save water and manage it sustainably. Faced with this challenge, individual and collective action must be stepped up. Profound changes in behaviour and practices are needed, particularly in terms of saving and wastage.

The Office of Tourism and conventions bureau and the City of Marseille are getting involved!

Through the Clef Verte programme

Launched in 2020 in partnership with Teragir to strengthen sustainable development initiatives in hotels, the Clef Verte/Green Key label is the first hotel ecolabel recognised worldwide (source: Teragir). Clef Verte-labelled hotels demonstrate effective environmental management and responsible practices based on 100 to 120 criteria covering 7 themes, including water management.

By 2022, the 32 hotels in Marseille with the Clef Verte label will have saved 3 million litres of water every month. And in 2023, thanks to the 10 new establishments enrolled in the Clef Verte programme, 4 million litres of water will be saved every month.

Through the Ecotable programme

Developed in 2022 in partnership with Ecotable, the programme provides support to restaurant owners in Marseille who wish to take action and make a commitment to sustainable food. To date, thanks to the work of the 34 establishments enrolled in the programme, one litre of water per meal is saved for each service.

Through the #GourdeFriendly project

In partnership with Hoali and launched at the beginning of July 2023, its aim is to facilitate the use of water bottles by increasing the number of points of access to drinking water while reducing plastic waste in the region. A campaign has been organised to encourage shopkeepers, restaurateurs, bars and other establishments open to the public to take part in this local initiative. 33 establishments in the heart of the city have already signed up to become “#GourdeFriendly” ambassadors, offering free water refills to anyone who asks.

Finding them couldn’t be easier! All the addresses of the “#GourdeFriendly” ambassadors are listed on our partner HOALI’s interactive map using the QRCODE below, which you can stick on your water bottle. Don’t forget to pick up a “#GourdFriendly” sticker to stick on your water bottle at our reception desk or at one of the ambassador establishments, which you can find by using this sticker.
