A paddle from the Pointe Rouge
The sun and the heat are out today, so we’re off to the Pointe Rouge beach for a refreshing programme! Our paddleboard instructor welcomed us in front of his club and explained how the activity would work. There were about ten of us: a family with 3 children, a young girl and myself, each more motivated than the last. Once we’d collected our lifejackets, paddles and paddles, we headed for the beach, 20 metres away, to get in the water!
We were told the basics of paddling, how to stand and how to paddle, and we soon managed to stand up on the board! We then set off a little further away from the beach, away from the crowds (because yes, it’s the middle of August and there are a lot of people!).
A moment of relaxation (a bit sporty!)
As we moved further away from the coast, we enjoyed the calm rhythm of the water and the small waves created by the boats. You have to keep your stomach and legs together to stay stable! It may seem a bit complicated at first, but it’s actually quite natural and paddling is a fairly intuitive sport. The trick is to paddle steadily to stay upright, but there’s nothing to stop you staying on your knees and soaking up the sun.
And don’t be afraid of falling in! Once I’d got wet, I wasn’t afraid of falling in! What’s more, the water’s good and it’s warm, so it’s all good fun.
