This year, the European Heritage Days are celebrating ‘photographic heritage’.
On Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 September, we invite you to discover or rediscover Marseille’s iconic monuments, to step inside these places steeped in history, and to explore the city’s stories through the eyes of those who have observed, documented and immortalised it over the years. This year’s event will highlight historic monuments, religious buildings, museums and theatres, modern architecture, ancient ruins, the architectural design of cultural venues, and, of course, all the places dear to the hearts of the people of Marseille that have shaped the city’s cultural identity. What’s more, this year we are fortunate to have access to previously unseen venues, which are being opened to the public either exceptionally or even for the very first time!

Over 150 events are on offer, ranging from themed tours, workshops, concerts, walks, exhibitions and demonstrations, to numerous guided tours organised by the Marseille Tourist, Leisure and Convention Bureau. Every district and neighbourhood in the city is involved in this weekend-long celebration of culture, and everything is free of charge (unless otherwise stated).
