With *Offering*, Ibeyi returns to the free and spontaneous spirit of their early days. After more than a decade of success—praised by Beyoncé and Orelsan, and featuring their Tiny Desk and COLORS sessions, and tours on the biggest stages, culminating in the summer of 2023 with a memorable show at the Olympia—the Diaz twins have seen their momentum wane under the pressure of algorithms and often clumsy marketing strategies
While *Offering*, as is often the case in their work, draws on a worldview rooted in the Yoruba religion, these references should not distract from what matters most: the Diaz sisters unfold a more intimate, less symbolic narrative, telling their story for the first time in unison. Blending sacred minimalism, analog textures, tweaked percussion, and processed vocals, they’ve created an album that’s at times utterly stripped-down and at others more massive, with physicality and raw energy radiating from every track.
Now independent, they have gathered around them a cohort of producers from hip-hop, the underground, and alternative pop (Khalil, Jason Pounds, Zach Ezzy, pablopablo, Jack Peñate), replacing their longtime collaborator Richard Russell. It was a unanimous decision, one that proved deeply transformative. For two years, Naomi and Lisa-Kaindé embarked on a quest for that same artistic clarity—navigating both good and bad musical “dates”—until their decisive meeting with Michael Brun, who served as the album’s executive producer. By stepping away from the public eye for a while, Ibeyi rediscovered what matters most: the joy of playing.
