“Carmen could be summed up in this sentence: She leaves him, he kills her. The sentence is shocking. Yet it reflects an everyday reality. In this story that echoes the violence in our society, the public space appears as the only place where the debate must take place, in the manner of ancient theater.
A troupe of ten actors, singers, and musicians tells this story against backdrops that draw the audience’s gaze to the very places where the ambiguities and complexities of our shared existence arise.
With humor and kindness, the adaptation of this opera by the company Maurice et les autres will be joyful, collective, and political.”
Jeanne Desoubeaux
