At the beginning of 2020, the Aix-Marseille Metropolitan Authority installed free public toilets. The overall plan for the requalification of public spaces in which this approach is integrated also includes the greening of streets, the extension of cycle paths, the widening of pavements with benches, new paving, the installation of retractable bollards to regulate car traffic, better signposting of parking areas, improved lighting and the deployment of wifi terminals.
The city of Marseille is also working to increase the number of these facilities, with the aim of installing them near emblematic sites and identified urban routes.
Nearly 60 pieces of equipment are planned to be installed in three phases.
In addition, the signposting, geolocation and location of these toilets will be indicated on the city maps of the Marseille Tourist and Convention Bureau.
