Description

Dated of the second half of the 18th century chateau Borely is emblematic of pleasure homes built around the city by the rich families from Marseille thanks to the trade with East (Egypt, Levant scale)
Successful traders settled in Alexandria. Borely held official positions in the service of the King of France. Mostly visited during, hot season and weekends Borely located in the district of Bonneveine is seen as the most beautiful bastide from its construction. Quite rare, the castle still retains much of its original décor designed by the painter : Louis Chaix, from Aubagne and some of his remarquable : golden sofa, library, room and chapel. Sold in 1857, by the last owner, Gaston de Panisse Passis. The Estate subsequently become the property of the town. Opened to the public in 1863, the castle now houses the archaelogical collections. Classified as historic monument, fully renovated Borely hosts the Decorative arts and fashion museum. The guests will be able to discover the intimacy and the way of life of an 18 th century family. Visitors will also be able to admire an authentic collection of the 18 th century to nowadays. To discover : an extraordinary ceramic and glass collection, furniture, Arts rare exotic object. Furniture, Arts, rare exotic objects, fashion and accessories, the objects will be displayed in period rooms, and fashion in its study gallery will be shown three times a year. Contemporary works including the large chandelier in the vestibule especially created by the designer Mathieu Lehanneur are on the entire journey through the collection.
