The Cinémathèque de Marseille, created in 1975, has a double mission:
- To recover, safeguard and restore films of all origins, genres and formats, left behind by production, direction and distribution.
- To disseminate this artistic heritage during regular screenings to all audiences, in particular to young generations who are eager to build up a cinematographic culture.
In Marseille, heritage screenings are organized in the Cézanne room of the Centre Régional de Documentation...The Cinémathèque de Marseille, created in 1975, has a double mission:
- To recover, safeguard and restore films of all origins, genres and formats, left behind by production, direction and distribution.
- To disseminate this artistic heritage during regular screenings to all audiences, in particular to young generations who are eager to build up a cinematographic culture.
In Marseille, heritage screenings are organized in the Cézanne room of the Centre Régional de Documentation Pédagogique, which is equipped with professional equipment and can accommodate 170 people.
Each film is presented with a technical sheet and, depending on the opportunity, discussed in the room under the guidance of qualified animators.
The Cinematheque has signed partnership agreements with numerous public and private organizations working in the field of culture, as well as with commercial art cinemas.
The Cinémathèque is supported by the City of Marseille, the National Cinema Center and the Ministry of National Education (CRDP).
It is part of the 12 regional film libraries united in the Federation of Film Libraries and Archives of France (FCAFF).
