The park and its bastide were built around 1840 by the merchant Cohen. The complex was immediately named Maison Blanche. In 1920, a Swiss family bought the property and transformed it by creating a lake and opening large windows in the bastide's façade. The estate was sold to the City by the descendants in 1978. It was then decided to keep the park as an amenity, and a few years later, the bastide became the town hall of the 9th and 10th arrondissements. Most of the remarkable trees on this site, such as magnolias, redwoods, cedars, yews, plane trees, liquidambars and a Siberian elm, date from the first half of the 19th century.

Other species joined these first hardwoods: bald cypress, gingko biloba, chestnut, beech, maple, poplar, oak, sophora, tulip tree, holly and ash. More recently, hazelnut trees, hackberry trees, a paulownia and a banana tree.
