Programme to help restaurant owners and caterers obtain the Ecotable label

Have you ever thought about the carbon footprint of every meal served in your restaurant? Imagine this: each meal consumed in a “conventional” establishment contributes on average to the emission of 301 tonnes of CO²*. It’s a reality that calls for a profound rethink of our eating habits in restaurants. At a time when the fight against global warming is a global priority, it is essential to review our approach to food. However, it is worth noting that in order to limit global warming to +2°C by 2050, each inhabitant of developed countries would only need to emit an average of 1.7 tonnes of CO² per year**. This figure highlights the urgent need for a transition to more sustainable food practices.

A certification programme to help you make the transition

With this in mind, the Marseille Convention, Leisure and Visitors Bureau, with the support of the Région Sud, has taken the initiative ofsupporting Marseille’s restaurant owners in their transition to more environmentally-friendly catering. In partnership with the Ecotable label, this support programme aims to encourage and support restaurant owners inadopting more sustainable practices, thereby reducing their environmental impact while offering a high-quality culinary experience.

It’s an invitation to rethink what we eat in restaurants, to choose local and seasonal ingredients, to limit food waste and to favour environmentally-friendly production methods. Together, we can contribute to a more sustainable future, while continuing to offer our customers memorable gastronomic experiences rooted in our Mediterranean culinary heritage.

Launched in March 2022, 40 restaurateurs have already embarked on the adventure!

The aim of the programme is to provide you with logistical and financial support over 3 years as you work towards certification. Our partner Ecotable is in charge of monitoring, informing and auditing you once a year on your procurement, card, waste and resource practices.

To help you, the Marseille Convention, Leisure and Visitors Bureau will cover 100% of the annual cost of certification for the first year, and the Southern Region will provide financial support by covering 40% of the annual cost of the programme for the 2nd and 3rd years of the programme. Please note that this is a 3-year programme!
