Ecotable restaurants and caterers in Marseille

301 tonnes of CO²*, that’s the weight of the emissions ofa meal consumed in a “conventional” restaurant. Knowing that to limit global warming to +2°C in 2050, each inhabitant (of developed countries) will only have to emit 1.7 tonnes of CO2 per year**, it’s time to rethink what we eat in restaurants. With this in mind, the Marseille Convention, Leisure and Visitors Bureau, with the support of the Southern Region, has decided to encourage Marseille’s restaurant owners to make the transition, through the Ecotable label support programme.

What is Ecotable?

The most widely recognised catering label in France. It analyses the practices of candidate establishments in terms of sourcing, menus, waste and resources, and supports them in their transition by taking into account health impacts, ethical and social dimensions, and by supporting communication.

The catering sector has an important role to play in the fight against climate change. By signing up to the programme, restaurant owners can directly influence their environmental impact. But after that, it’s up to you, the customer, to support them by sampling their cuisine. At the same time, you’ll be supporting the farming industry and the resilience of our region.

1/3 of greenhouse gas emissions come from our food systems.

A restaurant that follows Ecotable’s recommendations has the potential to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 50%.
