From La Garde to Sainte-Frétouse

Sport, Pedestrian sports, Hiking itinerary in La Ciotat
3.3 km
  • This hiking itinerary allows you to admire two emblematic places located within the Calanques National Park, namely the Notre Dame de La Garde Chapel and the Villa Michel Simon, and to enjoy a panoramic view of the cliffs.

  • From the Notre-Dame de La Garde chapel, walk down along the traverse and then take the path on the left.
At the first intersection, leave the path on the right that leads to the Villa Michel Simon. The path goes away from the cliff and turns right, going into a deep valley on the rock face thanks to a rope passage. In a few steps, the path evolves in a forest of oaks sheltered from the sun.
Follow the path on the left to the viewpoint overlooking the Cannier cove and the Trou de Jeannette....

Follow the path on the left to the viewpoint overlooking the Cannier cove and the Trou de Jeannette. This spot is ideal for watching cormorants.
Continue along the path towards the west. The path descends into a second wooded canyon and then climbs back up onto the scrub-covered ridge.
Stay on the ridge until you reach the Villa Spaeny, an old farmhouse destroyed by fire.
The path joins the Chemin du Sémaphore.
    Descend gradually.
There are two options for the rest of the route:
    - take a path on the right that leads to the villa that belonged to Michel Simon and join the checkpoint n°2 of the walk,
    - or go straight on and turn right on the Notre-Dame de La Garde crossroads to reach the chapel.

    Did you know that?
The Villa Michel Simon is an 18th century bastide house, once occupied by the French actor Michel Simon (1895-1975), who bought it in 1946.
Abandoned for several years, it was bought by the municipality, which decided to bequeath it to the Calanques National Park, which is in charge of its renovation.
