Rachmaninoff’s Concerto No. 2 has an astonishing history. Sinking into a nervous breakdown after the failure of his First Symphony, he
consulted Dr. Nicolas Dahl. During hypnosis sessions, the neurologist promised him that he would write an immensely popular concerto. He set to work, and success followed.
To perform this work of breathtaking virtuosity, we have complete confidence in Victor Demarquette, 22, a student of Rena Shereshevskaja and Elisabeth Leonskaja. The son of cellist Henri Demarquette, this young pianist already has all the makings of a great artist.
