Description
Highly anticipated in Marseille, Sophia Liu is our favorite this year. You’re going to love her.
Sophia Liu, piano
At 17, Sophia Liu’s transcendent playing and flawless technique outshine just about everyone. But above all, she possesses a rich palette of expression, a refined musical sensibility, and a freshness that lend her performances a rare charm.
Born in Shanghai, she was still in diapers when she moved to Japan. At age four, she began piano lessons, and by age five, she had won her first competition. Three years later, the family settled in Canada. Sophia Liu studies with Maestro Dang Thai Son, First Prize winner of the 1980 Chopin Competition and also the teacher of Bruce Liu and Eric Lu, the last two winners of the famous competition. She has won numerous international prizes in Japan, China, Europe, and the United States.
