"Like many other French towns, Marseille has now got in the swing of things and developed a municipal bicycle rental service. All you need to do is register with ""Marseille Provence Métropole"" – you are then free to use any of the pretty bicycles fitted out with a large basket stationed every 300 metres or so throughout the city's main quarters. Painted blue to reflect the colours of the Med, these safe and comfortable bikes, complete with gears, are a great way to explore the city in all freedom. You can subscribe for a year or less (7 days), and the city council takes care of repairs and upkeep. You just need to remember a couple of things: the stations do not exist in every quarter of this immense metropolis, so take time to check out the plan available on the city's Website. Also, you can give the bikes back 24 hours a day, but they can't be taken out between midnight and 6 a.m.
