Amphidrome: this building has the particularity of being able to move forwards or backwards without having to turn around. Other features include electro-solar power, compliance with current sustainable development standards and disabled access. The new Ferry Boat is designed like a catamaran. The hulls are built in laminate on female molds. Materials have been chosen for their marine quality, lightness, strength and ease of maintenance.
The super-structures combine composite materials and wood, allowing easy maintenance without losing the relationship with wood, a noble marine material.
Embarkation and disembarkation are via 2 sliding doors at each end of the ship, designed to withstand gusts of wind. With a width of 90 cm, they provide easy access for the disabled.
The pontoon is on the same level as the ship's deck, to compensate for the difference in level between the sea and the quay, and to enable people with reduced mobility to use this means of transport.
To facilitate circulation, there is a separate entrance and exit. A central post separates the two entrances. After the doors, an open area allows passengers to wait. This unobstructed area is used to store bicycles, strollers and disabled wheelchairs. A handrail provides support.
The central, elevated cockpit offers 360° visibility. The pilot maneuvers the boat in both directions. All he has to do is swivel around the dual-control console. These controls are electrically operated, and a steering wheel steers the rotary bases, while a joystick regulates speed.
The curved outward-facing windows offer a wide view of the port during the crossing. They can be slid sideways to "open" the boat in fine weather. The ship is air-conditioned, and a high-performance sound system combined with on-board information displays provides passengers with useful information.
The boat can accommodate 2 people in mechanical (but not electric) wheelchairs.
