The Château de La Buzine has been famous ever since Marcel Pagnol made it a central feature in his novel Le Château de ma mère (« My Mother’s Castle »). The mansion was built in 1867 and purchased in 1941 by Pagnol whose ambition was to turn it into a « City of Cinema ». The Château de La Buzine became the property of the City of Marseilles in 1995 and was designated a listed monument two years later.
Nestled in the Parc des sept collines inside the 11th district of Marseilles, the Château de La Buzine underwent a 3-year renovation programme conducted by Stern International town planners and architects and has now been converted into the Maison des cinématographies de la Méditerranée (« Mediterranean Film Centre »).
This hotspot for culture lovers, film enthusiasts and sightseers will open in spring 2011.
Designed as a subtle balance between tradition and modernism, past and future but also culture and nature, the Maison des Cinématographies de la Méditerranée is definitely one of a kind in the local cultural scene.
An all-round cultural and leisure centre in Marseilles, this 43,000 sq.ft. City of Cinema features a film theatre, cocktail lounges with a view of the terraces and park, a scenographic journey, a book and video library, a coffee & restaurant and a souvenir shop.
As a vibrant cultural centre in the middle of the French Riviera, this unique site is the perfect venue to organize various events such as corporate meetings, conferences, community meetings, new product launches, Public Relations day or night events, breakfasts, cocktail parties, etc.
Our staff at Château de La Buzine will be glad to reserve the Film Theatre and Cocktail Lounges for your own private use.
