The 18th-century fountain is listed in the Monuments Historiques inventory and was inspired by the more monumental fountain built in Paris on the Place des Victoires to commemorate the fountain of Louis XIV. The Cassis Fountain was built in 1651 and accidentally destroyed in 1785. This monument may be the origin of the saying "Qu'a vist Paris se noun a vist Cassis, pou dire : n'ai rén vist (Frédéric Mistral).
