La Plaine market

Quite a story

This market is an institution in Marseille. The market has not been held since 2018, as the Place Jean-Jaurès has been undergoing works. It is now back, with nearly 200 fairground stallholders. It takes place every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. From 6am to 1pm.

The fish market

Marseille's typical Vieux-Port market

The Vieux-Port fish market is the city’s most authentic market. In Marseille since the early 20th century, it’s the ideal place to buy fresh fish! Sea bream, red mullet, sardines… You’re sure to find what you’re looking for. If you’re not a fan of fish, we’d still recommend a visit for a real Marseilles experience: the friendly, singing-sounding vendors will put a smile on your face.
