Résistances et Désobéissances

Résistances & Désobéissances invites two artists - one French, the other Tunisian - to produce works based on memories of France-Tunisia's colonial past.
the imprisonment of Habib Bourguiba, the Tunisian independence leader, between 1939 and 1942 at Marseille's Citadelle - then a political prison. The project addresses decolonial and memorial issues through alternative methods of collecting archives and digital media, and reflects on the prison as a place for building resistance. With few archives at its disposal, the Citadelle crosses its heritage with academic research to reconstruct history, invoking creation to address the immaterial archive and the reappropriation of places of oppression. The works will be presented at the Citadelle in Marseille and then in Tunis, in association with the partners of the Chroniques - Biennale des imaginaires numériques project and the B7L9 art center.
