Between history and art

The appointment is given at 2 pm in front of the  Poissonnerie Gallery located in street Rue des Phocéens. This gallery known for its Street Art pieces was created in the Panier district, 8 years ago by Loïc Perrel- a respected artist and better known as «Poasson». His gallery aims to train people in Street Art and his works are sold with 10% of the profits donated to hospitals in Marseille. In addition, Loïc participates in many social actions in the neighborhood.

Some works attract my attention, especially the one that pays tribute to Amy Winehouse! After admiring these works, we set off to discoverthe streets of the Panierdistrict. We marvel at a huge fresco of sheperds in the street” Rue de Lorette”, and observe the emblematic piece of two men kissing.

We then stop in front of a famous work evoking theMarseille aperitif, before joining the Vieille Charité, where its history is told. The journey leads us to a place where Marseille culture is at the center of attention. On one side, the “Bar des 13 coins”and its pleasant terrace faces the” Maison de la Boule”, known for its triplets and its ultramarine blue façade. Going up  “Rue du Refuge”, we come across a striking fresco of an octopus that seems to be clinging to the wall with its huge tentacles, reminding us that Marseille is above all a Meditarranean city on the water’s edge.

The Street Art Studio

It’s finally time to practice: I was looking forward! We join the Massilia Tapas, an intimate place where Loïc has prepared all his equipment. After an introduction tothe basic techniques, such as the “banana” effect, we are invited to create a common work with ananimal and a word. The choice is a dynamic frog and the word “momentum”, symbolizing movement and vitality.

This moment of conviviality is shared around a small aperitif “à la marseillaise”, and everyone takes turns to paint this work. A perfect day between the collaborator to discover street art and the history of graffiti.
