A major exhibition celebrating the bicentenary of Gustave Flaubert (1821, Rouen - 1880, Croisset).
A whirlwind of literature, painting, sculpture, photography, performing arts, cinema, comic strips and archaeology, "Salammbô" explores the current-day impact of Flaubert's unique life work and its ties with the issues of today.
Class determinism, gender assignment, political violence, the legitimacy of power, war, otherness and diversity... The seedlings of the issues that have overturned our modern world are all found in Flaubert's historic oeuvre, which continues to kindle our contemporary awareness.
This travelling exhibition, held in Rouen, Marseille and Tunis from spring 2021 to summer 2022, brings together around 250 works, objects and images from French and European public and private collections.
