Madison Bycroft's solo exhibition is designed around her film La sauce de tout agencement. It invites the public into an earthy environment that offers a form of continuity with the end of the film and the image of the molehill: it is precisely in this molehill that the film is projected.
Part comedy, part musical, part gore film, The Sauce of All Order follows the inauguration - literally - of Felix Culpa, who joins the circle of augurs, the priests of ancient Rome who interpreted natural phenomena considered to be omens, particularly bird-related, on behalf of the emperors. Here, Emperor-Empress Oren - an anagram of 1st-century emperor Nero - takes on the character of Trimalcion, parodying Nero in the Satyricon attributed to Petronius, a Roman writer and elegantiae arbiter [arbiter of good taste] at Nero's court. The Satyricon is a tale of excess whose central scene is the "Feast at Trimalchion's", a mock funeral banquet and tale of social ascension in which truth and falsehood are inseparable, and to which Madison Bycroft's film makes reference.
Good to know: flash visits every Saturday from July 15, 2025 at 3pm.
A 30-minute format for informal discussions with the mediation team about the works on display.
The visit requires no reservation, is free for children and included in the price of admission for adults. Please note that an exhibition ticket is essential, even if you are entitled to free admission. It can be collected from the ticket office, and gives access to all exhibitions in the Tower and Panorama.
