Key Nautical Events in Marseille

From april to september 2012

International Mediterranean Nautical Week (SNIM)
Dates : 6>9 of april 2012
Organiser : Société Nautique de Marseille - www.lanautique.com
Location: harbour of Marseille

A key highlight of the regatta season launch in the Mediterranean, the International Mediterranean Nautical Week (SNIM) is a sailing competition that will be held for the 47th time over the Easter 2012 weekend. Organised by the Société Nautique de Marseille, participants in this top-level event consist of 150 boats and 2,000 French and foreign competitors who come to compete against each other and enjoy the two attractive harbours in Marseille - ideally recognized for the organisation of regattas - often with nice winds to add to the excitement at this time of year. The event ranges from the traditional to novelties and got back to its roots in 2009 by organising a night race on the Marseille-around Porquerolles route (and back for the largest boats). Regattas are held in the harbour from Good Friday through Easter Monday. Spectators have several options to watch the competition: from the Corniche where you can follow the various fleets with an excellent point of view, on the water, with a free ride on the boat chartered by the Office de la Mer (mandatory registration one week ahead of time at 04 91 90 93 93) to follow the regattas closely with commentary, or virtually thanks to the coverage provided on the Société Nautique website.

Les Voiles du Vieux Port: legendary sail boats under full sail in the Marseille harbour! The association "Les Voiles du Vieux Port", of which Marseille's major nautical clubs are members, organises this key traditional sailboating event in Marseille.  This international nautical event is now listed on Marseille's calendar of prestigious traditional sailboat regattas. The four-day event falls within the scope of "Marseille Provence - European capital of culture 2013".
Les Voiles du Vieux Port was established in 2002 when Marseille's main yacht clubs wanted to combine their passion to establish a major nautical event dedicated to traditional, period, classic, and "Spirit of tradition" yachts.
The event has since won acclaim. It is listed on the official calendar of the AFYT (French Association of Traditional Yachts) and enjoys the support of loyal and prestigious partners. Local and regional institutions support the organisation of Les Voiles du Vieux Port, the flagship of high quality nautical events in Marseille. The yachts participating in this regatta guarantee the preservation of the history of yachting and international maritime heritage and were built between the second half of the 19th and the end of the 20th century. From generation to generation, they carry on the passion of shipowners and the expertise of architects, builders and crews in order to pass on their fantastic heritage.

Juris' Cup
When the law meets yachting (conference and regattas)
Dates : 13>16 of september 2012
Organiser:  Association Juris' Cup - www.juriscup.comwww.juriscup.com
Location : Vieux Port and Marseille harbour

A group of lawyers from Marseille, boating and sea enthusiasts, realised that yachting legislation was nonexistent. Their first meeting in Marseille in 1991 addressed the issue: "Does any legislation govern yachting? Specific legislation? State law, Maritime law?". The conference was an opportunity to cover many current issues, with clarification and commentary provided by legal and yachting decision makers. This work, organised under the auspices of the Marseille bar association, is sponsored by the French government authority on Yachting and Water Sports and the Ministry of Infrastructure, Transportation and Housing.
It is the leading corporate regatta in France.
After the resounding success of the previous editions and particularly last year's race, drawing on 20 years of experience with a unique and innovative concept, the Juris'Cup will continue to develop. "Jurists must account for at least 50% of the crew composition", this is the main principle of this regatta that is open to the entire legal and judiciary world.
