On 10th July 1964 a law was passed in France to create Municipal Tourist Offices in listed tourist resorts. The aim was to give these resorts a tool dedicated specifically to tourism.
The municipal tourist office created in 1966 is an EPIC (industrial and commercial public undertaking), with similar legal status to a privately managed concern. Its administrative and financial structure enables it to carry out local tourism actions.
The Marseilles Convention and Visitors Bureau**** drives development of the city's tourism activities in close collaboration with the local authorities and tourism professionals. Its main objective is to contribute to the promotion of Marseilles: the capital of the third economic region in France and the leading centre for industry and the service sector in the south of France.
